He studied electricity and discovered that the dangerous force of nature called “Lightning” was a powerful electric force.  He invented the lightning rod, a practical device that protected people, buildings and ships from the damaging effects of lightning.

Terms such as Minus, Plus, Negative, Positive, Charge, Discharge, Electric Shock, Electrician, Condenser, and Battery are attributed to Franklin.
