A marketing approach to building your business

Some people say that marketing is a science; some say it is an art. We believe both sides are correct, marketing combines both. The science side of marketing relates to using accumulated knowledge and processes from the disciplines of consumer behavior, sociology, economics, accounting, finance, statistics and mathematics. The art side of marketing requires experience in selecting opportunities that are most likely to support business growth and making judgmental decisions that promote business growth.

The needs of a business vary with the individuals that are running the business. Schools can teach the science of marketing with their distinct classes, but we believe that the art of marketing is acquired by actual practice in the profession. Knowing how to choose a subject, or mix the paint is important to an artist, but it is the skilled application of the paint that produces a desirable piece of art. The art in marketing is in knowing how much science to apply in order to be able to see the near future with a degree of acceptable accuracy. Your success depends upon predicting the future outcome of many present variables.

A good place to begin to organize your business is to prepare a plan. (The near future I’m talking about is for the next 6 months to 1 year). One can make longer plans; for 5 years or more too, but bear in mind that there are many intervening variables that will occur over the longer time periods that will require revisions and adjustments.  Your plan should include all the factors of production that your business will require to get started. Selling a product or service in todays competitive marketplace requires a positive action plan. We can help you build an action plan that takes a positive customer oriented marketing approach.
